One of the most glorious and well known castle in Japan. You can spend half a day inside to really soak up all that history. It was a nice stroll too and the atmosphere was very relaxing.

The outer part of the castle is beautiful. The grounds looked gorgeous but it is winter and we didn't look around. It was a steep climb up to the castle, the ground is really steep. Then when you get inside, more steep stair ladders. You can read my opinion on these under the Matsumoto Castle, I think I added something there...phew is about three best way to put it. Not for the feint of heart! The view was tremendous.

Beautiful from the outside, Truly breathtaking to look at. Great views from the top, even though they are restricted. Lots and lots of very steep stairs. Almost like climbing a ladder. Floors start to look very similar. Definitely worth a visit if in Himeji or as a day trip from Osaka.

It was Akamatsu Norimura who built the fort. Sadano later builds a mountain castle. It was Kuroda Shigetaka that built a castle close to the present figure.
